City Championships 2013

The Gloucester Closed Championships were held at Waterwells Sports Centre, Quedgeley over the weekend of 16th and 17th March, the Junior competition on the Saturday and the Senior event on the Sunday.

R&HTTC members were largely involved and in the Junior events they were present in 4 of the 5 events. Ollie Bailey beat Luke Pardoe to take the Boys under 13 title. In the Boys under 15's both finalists were from R&HTTC with Owen Berry coming out on top over Michael Pang. In the Girls under 18 singles Margaret Pang just lost out against Beth Williams. The Boys Under 18 final of Owen Berry verses Hamsa Bham was played on Finals night (see below for the result).

In the Senior events 7 of the competitions played to a result had Club members involved. Alan Welsh partnered Janie Kirby in the Minor Doubles final just losing out to Brin Davis and Peter Kirkham. Pete Humble and Owen Berry (pictured left) beat Beth Priest and

Nick Walker to take the Intermediate Doubles title. In the Mixed Doubles event Christine Williams and Darren Griffin paired up to beat Ann Barnes and Jason Million (Highnam). It was an all Rudford affair with Olly Tyndall and Dave Harvey just losing to Darren Griffin and Gordon Shaw in the Open Doubles final.

The Divisional singles events saw Fabrizio Trifiro coming runner-up to Peter Kirkham in the Division 4 event. In the Division 2 singles final Owen Berry overcame Nick Walker to take the title.

The Veteran Singles final saw Rudford team-mates Daren Griffin and Gordon Shaw play for the title, with Griffin being the victor.

Rudford A, consisting of Ann Barnes (Capt.), Simon Moysey, Lawrence Symonds, Olly Tyndall and Dave Harvey ended the season in Runner-up position in Division 1, with Highnam A being Division 1 Champions for a second year running.

City Finals Night, Wotton Hall 22nd March 2013

The finals night saw R&HTTC being represented in all 4 finals. The night was

kicked off by the two semi-finals of the Open event, with Darren Griffin beating old rival Dave Harvey (pictured right), and Gordon Shaw winning against Jason Million.

Owen Berry just lost out in the first Final of the night, the Under 18 Boys, losing to Hamsa Bham of RSV & Friends.

In the Ladies event Christine Williams beat Ann Barnes and in the final event of the evening Griffin beat Shaw to walk away with the Open Singles title.
