City Championships 2015

This year's Gloucester Closed tournament took place at Waterwells, Quedgeley on the weekend of 21/22 March 2015, with the Junior and Novice events on the Saturday and the Senior competition on the Sunday.

This year a Novice event was held for all players who do not play in the league. Rudford was well represented with most of the players coming from the Club. Leader of the Gloucester City Council, Paul James presented the trophies. Alex Greenough (right) played well to come runner-up in the Junior event losing out to an exceptional performance from Shane Lovegrove. In the Senior Novice event, John Greenough (Alex's Father) (far right) came runner-up to the more experienced Steve Havard.

For the Divisional Cups, Rudford "D" were winners of Division 2 with Rob Deeley, Stewart Jones and Lee Bruton collecting the award presented by Sheriff of Gloucester, Lisa Noakes (below left). The "A and "G" Teams came runner up in their respective Divisions (1 and 4 respectively). The "A" team members Christine Williams, Gordon Shaw and Darren Griffin were presented with their trophies (below right). Margaret Pang represented the "G" team.

In the Minor Doubles brother and sister pairing of Michael and Margaret Pang came runner-up to Gary Tyndall and Louis Price.

Agustin Romero (below) won the Division 2 singles beating Marius Plaskowicki.

The Finals and Presentation Evening held on Friday 24th April at Wotton Hall Club, Gloucester, where there were 4 finals played in which Rudford's Darren Griffin featured in 2 of them; the Veterans Singles, in which he beat GTTA's Chris Price 11-7, 11-6, 11-5. The prizes were given out by Leader of the Gloucester City Council, Paul James and Sheriff of Gloucester, Lisa Noakes.

The Open Singles was a re-run of last year's Final in which Darren had an opportunity to level the score against Junior Olly Tyndall, which he did just that in a close 5 setter winning 11-7 in the fifth. (10-12, 11-9, 11-8, 5-11, 11-7).
