R&HTTC well represented in Schools Competition

Edited from report by Graham Slack

The Gloucestershire Schools Individual Competition was held on Saturday 4th January 2014 at Waterwells Sports Centre.

The Under 16 Boys competition saw 19 players competing in 6 groups which saw two brothers from R&HTTC reach the Quarter-final stage. Max Benson-Bunch lost to Shrey Bhardwaj from Cheltenham, but his older sibling Kim beat Jamie Theyer (Cheltenham), losing to Ben Glover of Stroud in the Semi-final stage.

The Boys Under 19 event saw 5 players each playing each other in a round-robin. Liam James and Owen Berry were involved in this extremely competitive competition where no one player dominated.

Owen just lost out against Sam Turner (Gloucester) 12-10 in the final set, and Liam losing to Oliver Philip of Stroud in another close match finally losing 11-9 in the fifth set.

The final match of the group was the deciding match with Ben Roberts of Gloucester and Owen playing for the title. Owen took the match in four very close sets to win the event on count back, with Ben finishing in the runner-up position.

The winners all go through to the National Finals in Doncaster on 26th April 2014. We wish them all success.
