Finals Night 2013

The Club Finals Night was again held at Gambier Parry Hall, Highnam on Saturday 27th April where around 45 friends and family enjoyed an entertaining evening of table tennis and prize giving.

The Special Guest this year was a past R&HTTC member, John Fannin, who played for the Club between 1986-2004, playing in Division 1 achieving an average of no less than 60% during this period. John's wife, Olive also joined us (pictured left).

The evening kicked off with the Handicap Singles where two Juniors

battled it out for the title. Owen Berry (of Division 2) (far right) had to give Liam James (of Division 4) (right) a start of 9. However, Owen's attacking shots were too strong for Liam winning 21-15, 21-17.

Lee Bruton (Div 1) (far left) and Sten Salisbury (Div 3) (left) played in the second final, the Handicap Veteran Singles. Sten received an 11-point advantage over his stronger opponent. Lee overcame the handicap and won the match 21-18, 21-18.

The third match was to be the most exciting and closest match of the evening, the Handicap Doubles. Agustin Romero (Div 2) and Liam James (Div 4) (left) took on Pete Humble (Div 2) and Paul Russom (Div 4) (right). As both teams had one player from Division 2 and 4, the match was played off a Scratch start (0-0). Agustin and Liam won the first game 21-17, but Pete and Paul came back fighting in the 2nd taking it 21-15. The 3rd and final game went down to the wire ending up 27-25 with Romero and James finally sealing victory.

The final match of the evening was the Open Singles Final with team-mates Darren

Griffin (Right) and Gordon Shaw (far right) both of Division 1 playing each other. Griffin eased to the title winning in 3 straight sets 11-4, 11-5, 11-4.

The Glyn Lloyd Award for services to the club was presented to Ann Barnes this year.
